Clarifications on Yesterday's Post

Happy almost Friday.

To start off, I'd like to say that yesterday's post was in no way meant to attack anyone, nor was it aimed to ridicule anyone. If you offer sponsorships and you take care of your sponsors then GOOD FOR YOU!! I simply decided against it because I KNOW how hard it is for the ladies who really offer beneficial sponsorships! Go Erin, cause I'm taking about you! Want to "advertise your blog"? Take your sweet ass over there and sign up! I've heard great things and I know she takes care of her people. Never was I saying sponsorships are BAD. I just don't believe many people take the time and effort to make them beneficial for both parties. And they just aren't for this blog.

As for the group giveaways, obviously I don't care for them, but the point of the post wasn't to slam people who do participate. It was to make bloggers understand that you should NOT FEEL OBLIGATED to pay for giveaways. You can simply blog and gain readership, it just isn't going to happen over night.

As for the "paying for followers" portion, lets be honest I'm an opinionated lady and I've never had a problem sharing that with anyone! Do I take it back? NO! Because the fact of the matter is you pay to host the giveaway and it results in gaining followers. That my friends is simple black and white. It is what is it. Now after reading some of your comments, I do see how ladies view it differently. Many people see it as "sponsoring or advertising their blogs" which is not how I looked at it. At the end of the day, if you are trying to grow a blog into a business it absolutely makes sense that you would want to get your blog out there and if paying to do so helps and the return on investment proves to be beneficial then I understand why you would do it. My trade by day, is Marketing. I 100% understand why someone would do this from a business stand point. That's what I wasn't looking at. I have never viewed this blog as a business so I wasn't looking at it as a strategic advertising move.

So I truly apologize if anyone personally felt attacked by the post. That was never my intention. I simply want other bloggers who are in this for FUN to understand that you don't have to spend your money to develop readership. I have NEVER paid for a single sponsorship, nor have I paid for a single giveaway and this blog is doing just FINE! Yours can too!

Come back tomorrow for Friday Letters!!

P.S. If you're still huffy after this, you need to learn to let things roll off your shoulders!!

  1. Preach! I don't get why people get so upset about posts that offer a differen opinion. You should have a strong enough motivation/ belief in what you do or don't do that you can read an alternate viewpoint without getting upset and/or trying to change that persons mind. I think it's awesome that you haven't ever done any sponsoring stuff and you still have such a big readership! Probably bc you write posts like yesterday and don't hold back! I love your blog, it's one of the few that I make sure I click on when google reader tells me there's an update so keep doing what you do!

  2. Hey sweet lady--you certainly didn't need to do a shout out for me (but thank you)!!! You weren't wrong in all at expressing your opinion and I so hope you know that I was not offended in the slightest. At the end of the day we will all choose to run our blogs the way that we want to run them. There is no "wrong or right" in all of this...what some people do, others may not and vice versa. I think as a whole (blogging or not blogging) we just need to appreciate the differences and decisions that we all make individually. Collectively we all work extremely hard on our blogs and I think we should all remember that :) Your post provoked a lot of good thoughts in my little brain last night so thank you for that!!! xoxo

  3. I'm so glad you posted what you did! I recently won a giveaway, and some of the prizes were free sponsorships. I was somewhat upset becuase I never want people to feel like they're forced to read my blog if they aren't really interested. I want to have readers that enjoy what I write...not followers that just follow to win a prize.

  5. I thought it was downright honest and I liked it. People should respect honesty, or not be so sensitive. Plus, you weren't hating on anyone who did. That's why I love reading your blog. You are honest, yet not offensive. Keep doing your thang :)

  6. Girl, I do not how you handle some of the drama that comes through your page! Your honestly is honestly SO wonderful and a breath of fresh air in blog land... The business aspect of the blogs work for some people but not me! I sponsored one blog before and felt kinda lame afterwards thinking "I just spent money to sponsor someone that is not even following me in return"... pretty lame! Your blog is one of my favorites and you keep speaking the truth!

    Hugs!

  10. oh dear god! Are people bitching about your post??? It was your opinion and I cannot believe that anyone would complain about a post on YOUR blog. Just seems so silly. This is your space to write whatever you want. Doesn't all of the complaining take the fun out of it for you? so sorry that you have to deal with that. Cheers to it almost being Friday!

  11. I started following your blog about few months ago and I honestly enjoy reading your thoughts and opinions. Your thoughts and opinions are very similar to mine. I loved your post from yesterday about giveaways, sponsorships, etc. Blogging, to me, is about sharing your life with others who may be going through the same thing, trying out same products, getting ideas, sharing recipes, and mostly making new friends. I think making friends in the blogging world shouldn't have anything to do with 'winning free stuff' or trying to sponsor just to gain readers. I do not blog or rarely leave comments (this is actually my first comment!) but I wanted to leave a comment after reading yesterday's post and today's post. I am glad for you standing up and being truthful. Because of that, I will continue to be a lifelong follower of your blog and look forward to your posts everyday! :)

  12. I know I am a little late on this, but I loved both your posts on this topic. Too many blogs I read have turned into sponsorship overload. I applaud those girls for being able to make money off their blogs and gaining so many followers, but I don't enjoy those types of posts and normally scroll right on through them. I've been reading your blog for a long time now and you have stuck true to who you are and you posts are always fun to read. Keep it up!

And P.S. Congrats on the weight loss! You look amazing! So amazing it might just convince me to give yeast free a try!
