I have 4 adorable babies to buy for every year for Christmas and EVERY single year I find myself in the toy section for hours. See, I had a very happy childhood and I can still remember my Christmas mornings like they were yesterday. I remember every single toy that changed my life.
When I was 4, Santa brought me a LEGIT baby doll stroller and play pen. I
say legit because they were the exact same as the REAL items, just doll
size and metal. Santa didnt bring that plastic shiz. He knew my babies needed the real deal.
I thought I was the most LEGIT baby mama there ever was.
That stroller was strolled around our cul-de-sac until its wheels fell off.
When I was 5, Santa brought me my very own pink Barbie Corvette.
It seriously changed my life.
BEST present EVER.
I drove that baby til the wheels fell off too.
I wore some wheels out! ;)
When I was 6, Santa brought the most amazing pink Barbie bike with the caboodle and pompom handlebars. The fact that it had a caboodle on the handlebars and pink pompoms made me the coolest kid on the block.
Until I ate shit on it for the first time.
Then I had the coolest parked bike on the block.
Standing next to it was much safer than riding it.
Which brings me to buying presents for my babies.
I put so much thought into what I get them because I remember how special those gifts were to me and I need them to LOVE their Christmas gifts just as much as I did!!
So today Christopher and I spent the afternoon at Toys R Us.
I should start by saying that we both LOVE toys.
We went down every single item and picked at least 10 toys for each child.
Remotes control cars in the basket, then out.
Barbies in the basket, then out.
Vicious little cycle I tell ya.
After way too much thought and discussion we finally decided on the following:
My niece is getting a remote control Barbie car, Ken doll with outfit change and 3 outfits for her Barbie!
She's been dying for a car for her Barbies and Im pretty sure she'll love the remote control one!! I also decided she needed a Ken doll! Every little girl needs a Ken doll for her Barbies! Girlfriend must have one too!!
The twins and their little brother were the hardest to choose for.
We went from Hulk fists to interative Wii games to finally getting remote control cars.
With twins you always have to get them the same thing or there will be a "better" gift and one feels gipped. Ive learned to just get them the same item but different colors. I cant get them the same thing and their baby brother something different because Im afraid he will feel left out or different, so I get him the same thing too! Yes, that means 3 of the exact same gifts in the same house!
I know 3 things from today shopping:
1. I am officially old and no longer know what "in" in toy land.
2. When we have kids Chris will spend WAY too much money at toy stores buying what he wants them to have instead of what they want to have.
and
3. Shopping for little ones makes Christmas SO much more fun!!
What are you getting you little ones??
I wanna know!!
So dish!!

I’m Kristen. Welcome to All In My Twenties, my place to pour my little heart out on the daily!! This is the world just as I see it. Why dont you kick up your feet and stay awhile?!

I got a REAL, LEGIT baby stroller one year and loved that thing to pieces! Why oh why?
ReplyDeleteMy fav toys ever were my barbie dreamhouse I got when I was 4 or 5, and of course the rockin cabbage patch real life play pen. I was floating with joy and excitement over those! AND of course, I was THE COOLEST kid on the block with those!
ReplyDeleteThis year, Trista is getting a doll house, a tablet, and of course anything unicorn, because she is in LOVE with them! She's not quite there with the Barbies yet, but by next year, it is on!
All guys buy the toys they want. Don't fret because, so will you! Just wait!
I bought the stroller for my daughter when she was 2 and babies, they lasted until she tried to stroll her brother around and obviously it isn't meant for real people so it broke. Picking out toys is the hardest thing to do!!!
ReplyDeleteI have three kiddos of my own to buy for and frankly I haven't bought much of anything. I feel a Toys R Us run coming on for me VERY SOON!!!
ReplyDeleteI think you picked great gifts. They are gonna love them
Hahahah! Your comment about Chris and toys! I said to my husband on Friday night (in Toys R Us!) "You just want to have a son because YOU want to play with all these toys!" He also picked up Hulk fists at some point...and I said, "good job, encourage them to get into a fight!" Also? omg, I thought Garden Ridge was hell. No. Toys R Us is just as bad. I couldn't stand being in there very long.
ReplyDelete(also where the H were the remote control barbie cars back in our day?! we had to push those hookers around like they were poor or something!)
Since when is Ken so stylish?!
ReplyDeleteI totally get children presents that I want to play with them with.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting my cousin's five-year-old daughter, who is more like a niece than a second cousin (or whatever), perler beads. I bet you've had some and just didn't know that's what they're called -- I didn't until I googled it -- they're the plastic beads that you put on a white plastic pegboards with spikes to hold the beads in place. Then you put ironing paper over them and iron it to melt the beads together. We used to always make magnets out of ours! For her birthday, I got her a butterfly garden where you watch caterpillars turn into butterflies -- it was fun for everyone!
My 20-month-old niece is getting a train set (they're so much cheaper at Ikea, and just as nice) and lots of precious clothes!
My more distant cousins, twelve and seven, are getting Lego Creationary and a Hot Wheels wall-mounted track.
as a mother of twins I can give you a high five on getting them the same thing...well played. and man, your presents as a kid were awesome...but i'm sorry you ate shit on the bike. {and sorry for laughing cause that was hilarious just to read!}
ReplyDeleteWanna know what TOY you can't find ANYWHERE!?!?!? Lego Ninjagos! OHMIWORD, I've been to 229403240283 stores, trying to find this toy for my "christmas tree angel" at my sister's school.
ReplyDeleteIt's been really hard to find, but finally after 2 weeks success!!!! I wish I could see the kids face when he opens it on Christmas :)
My 13 month old is getting a tool work bench, extra tools and a toy drill just like his daddy's :) I'm so excited to see his face when he sees them ! Christmas shopping for your own babies is SO much fun !! TOO much fun and I think it' must be all dads who want to buy what they think is he coolest thing haha
ReplyDeleteBuying for little ones is the best! We have 2 nephews, 3 & 5 & I always have the most fun buying for them... plus, we have to make sure we hold our "cool aunt & uncle" slot by buying the most awesome gifts! HAHA! Merry Christmas!!!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid I lost my ken doll. So I just used some barbies who had lost their heads as my men. My mom thought it was HILARIOUS.
ReplyDeleteIm getting my niece a baby doll and cradle this year. shes one so she has no idea what is cool or not cool.
Awwwwwwww LOVE all the pink LOL
ReplyDeleteI tagged ya ;)
